ABB is the world’s leading power and automation technology group. This project saw the delivery of the East West Interconnector to EirGrid, the Irish transmission system operator, establishing an important link between the Irish and UK power grids. A 262 km cable system now connects Woodland in County Meath, Ireland and Deeside in north Wales. F&M Whelan fabricated supplied and erected 350 tonnes of intumescent painted structural steel and purlins to the facility in Co. Meath.
